A compact 360° camera is quickly purchased. This gives the impression that a professional virtual tour can be created without special knowledge. However, the camera is only one part of the entire production process.

Between a single 360° photo and a professional, navigable tour, there are numerous steps. These include planning the shooting positions, correct exposure, image editing, tripod removal, linking panoramas, and professional publication.

A flawed tour does not appear neutral. It influences the first impression that potential customers get of a company.

1. Professional HDR Quality Instead of Simple Snapshots

Professional 360° photographers work with powerful specialized cameras or system cameras with high-quality lenses. Depending on the quality requirements, several differently exposed shots are taken and combined into an HDR panorama.

This ensures that both bright windows and darker interior areas remain visible. Colors, contrasts, and spatial effects much better reflect the actual impression on site.

Simple 360° cameras have small image sensors and very short focal lengths. In difficult lighting conditions, this quickly leads to blown-out windows, dark shadows, image noise, blurry details, and unnatural colors.

A professional tour is planned first. The photographer decides which rooms will be shown, where the camera needs to be placed, and how visitors will navigate through the building later.

Too large distances between panoramas lead to unnatural jumps. Too small distances result in unnecessarily many shots and make navigation confusing.

Camera height, alignment, open or closed doors, visible reflections, people, confidential documents, and distracting objects must also be considered.

An incorrect link, for example, leads through a wall, into the wrong room, or back to an already visited position. Such errors appear unprofessional and make orientation difficult.

Google Maps distinguishes between normal photos, individual 360° photos, and interconnected Street View panoramas. A normal image upload therefore does not automatically create a navigable tour.

Additionally, there’s the training, test shots, planning of camera locations, image editing, linking panoramas, publication on Google Maps, and subsequent quality control. If shots need to be repeated due to errors or insufficient quality, the time expenditure increases significantly.

The actual photo shoot often accounts for only a small part of the entire project. Depending on the scope of the tour, a few hours of shooting time can quickly turn into several working days for preparation, post-processing, publication, and any necessary corrections.

The crucial question is therefore not whether you own a 360° camera. The decisive factor is whether the finished result convincingly reflects the quality and professionalism of the company.
